About the Author
Jorge García-Robles is a Mexican novelist, critic, and translator. He is the author of The Stray Bullet: William S. Burroughs in Mexico (Minnesota, 2013) as well as the translator of Kerouac’s Lonesome Traveler, Tristessa, Mexico City Blues, Maggie Cassidy, and “Cerrada Medellín Blues” into Spanish.
Daniel C. Schechter is an American writer and translator living in the Netherlands.

Jorge Garcia-Robles has written an important book. We understand the influences of Mexico on Jack Kerouac written by a Mexican author. The mystical and transformational land which is Mexico-transformed Jack Kerouac. Jack Kerouac's writing transformed American Literature. I am not sure that Jack Kerouac knew what happened to him while in Mexico. Therefore, Jack Kerouac might have kept returning to understand what he did and saw the first time? He also might have been trying to recreate the original experience? Jorge Garcia-Robles explains to us some of essences of Mexico. We can also understand how the illuminations which Jack Kerouac got from the land and people of Mexico, changed his view of the USA. Jack Kerouac in Mexico is an important book to fill in the gaps that all the reviews and critics and literary criticisms have missed during endless reviews and discussions about On The Road and Jack Kerouac. Thank you Jorge for bringing this book forward-written in Mexico and translated in English. This book is the Missing Link in Kerouac Studies.
