The second on syllabification lists in alphabetical order the inner parts of over 10,000 complex words in Finnegans Wake which are built up out of simpler elements and which would be impossible to find from the primary index alone.

A truly stunning book!

Renee', a little Jewish Girl, lives in the south of France during World War Two. The Nazis start to invade Toulouse, where she lives. Many, many Jews are forced to go into hiding. Everyone that Renee' knows is being captured, her Mom and Dad, Her Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, are all shipped away to concentration camps. Without her family Renee' is forced to act like a Catholic, French girl and is sent away to a Catholic orphanage very deep in the country. This book is a very good look at what many Jews had to go through during World war Two. I also liked this book because it is based on a true story.

Wonderful, heart-touching story

A 5-year-old girl is growing up in France, but her father is being hunted down by the police as they live during The Holocaust. She loses her name, town, and home (later on her parents-for a while). This book is her telling her story of growing up during the Holocaust.

I just finished this book, and I absolutely loved it! It has such vivid detail, and I cried several times. This book is a must-read for all ages!

Its a really good story to read

This story is a good story for all ages because its about a little girls perspective as a jew being "hunted" by the French. Her father is the one that they really want though, they want to send him to a consentration camp to work for them. Their family has to decide who they can trust and who they can't and to them it's pretty hard. The little girls name is Ruth Kapp Hartz and she like every other child has to go to school to get and education, but theres one problem, she has a jewish name. Her cousin Jeanette gives her the French name Renee to disguise her. When she finally realizes that she is in hiding she gets scared of what will happen if her father goes away. The roundups of Jewish men keep happening and her father keeps getting closer and closer to getting caught. When her mother and father have to moveout they decide that Albi is the best place to go and live, because her Uncle Oscar lives there, and he has a place for them to stay.They came from Toulouse on a train late at night to barely escapethe roundup, but her Uncle Heinrich didnt make it to the train. When Ruths dad goes back to find her Uncle all he finds is her Aunt Sophie and her cousin crying because they had taken her Uncle away.As the roundups keep happening her father has to go to live in the mountains and Ruth ends up having t go to live in a convent with a bunch of nuns that keep telling her that she has no mother and father. But she knows she does and wont listen to what they say. One time that her Aunt comes to see her other two cousins that went with her to the convent she gets a bag of chocolates, you have to read the book to find out what that means. Ruth doesnt know if she'll ever get to see her family again, and she is tired of trying to live the way she did and she wanted to go home. This book is sad and happy, to find out what happens read it and find out.

Great drawing book!

This book is fantastic for the up and coming artist in your family, especially if they love Pokemon and all the characters. I bought this book for my daughter and she loves it!! She is quite the artist and has learned to draw all her favorite Pokemon characters all by freehand and they look fantastic!

A good book to help you learn how to draw Pokemon

This book shows how to draw twenty-seven new Pokemon that were not included in How to Draw Pokemon (which was also written by Ron Zalme). The Pokemon included in this book are: Cleffa, Hoothoot, Marill, Togepi, Elekid, Quagsire, Chikorita, Sentret, Hoppip, Cyndaquil, Ledyba, Mareep, Bellossom, Quilava, Bayleef, Gligar, Snubbull, Totodile, Croconaw, Slowking, Meganium, Typhlosion, Scizor, Donphan, Ho-oh, Feraligatr, and Lugia.

For each Pokemon, three steps are illustrated and explained to help the reader draw the character. The first step shows the basic steps needed to draw the Pokemon, and also labels the order that the various lines and shapes need to be drawn in. The second step shows how to add some details to the Pokemon. The final step shows the finishing touches the reader needs to make to their drawing in order to have the completed character. And if a reader has too many problems drawing the character correctly, they can trace the drawing of the Pokemon that shows up in the third step. The last page of the book encourages the reader to keep practicing.

The book is written in such a way that it's aimed at children, and the text is easy for children to understand and follow. However, that doesn't mean adults should shy away from using this book. I also appreciate that in this book, the author labels the order the lines and shapes need to drawn for the first step of each Pokemon. This detail makes this book an improvement over How to Draw Pokemon. I also appreciate the encouraging tone the author uses in the text; this tone is especially helpful for children who may have trouble with drawing.

This books dates back to 1966(!), but I have the strong feeling that this writer's later title about the Do 335 is in fact just a new edition of this book. Only the text, the major weak point in this book, will have been improved upon in the later book, this one already has pretty much all that was to find on photographic material in 1966. Besides that, his new book is about the same size, so it can't have that much more material.
Of other new books about the Do 335 I read some good things about the out-of-print Monogram (32 pages) by J.R. Smith and I expect the book by Marek Rys (96 pages!) to be even better, the good news for the English reading-public is that the Polish publisher brought this book out in the English language. Games of Empire is great

The short version of my review is that Games of Empire is a great analysis of the material conditions that make up the system that enables us to play video games. The authors' deployment of Hardt and Negri as their cornerstone theorist creates a grand unifying theory of social/technological relationships that surround video games, which is useful to think through. However, if you are already familiar with their work, be prepared for long sections where they quote the basics at you. That isn't a bad thing, mind you, just something that anyone who plans on reading the book should be aware of.

That said, if you are interested in Hardt and Negri and the way they can be applied to video games, this is SUPER the book for you.

"Games of Empire" by Nick Dyer-Witheford and Greig de Peuter offers an uniquely incisive analysis of video game industry and culture. Mr. Dyer-Witheford and Mr. de Peuter's fascinating post-Marxist discussion is informed by Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt's influential book Empire, where videogaming is seen both as a paradigmatic expression of the corporate desire to control machines, immaterial labor and subjectivities; and as a possible pathway of resistance and liberation for the multitude.

The book is divided into three parts. 'Game Engine: Labor, Capital and Machine' shows how videogaming provides a persuasive training tool that subtly prepares a new generation of laborers for post-industrial production; how some workers at a major video game manufacturer have pushed back against severe exploitation by their corporate bosses; and how game consoles have become sites of contestation over the control of content and game play.

The second section, 'Gameplay: Virtual/Actual' deconstructs three massively popular games to explore themes about war, biopower, and neoliberalism. 'Full Spectrum Warrior' presents the banality of the U.S. military's interminable war to secure empire against the threat of theocracy; 'World of Warcraft' highlights struggles between workers in the developed and developing economies over commerce; and 'Grand Theft Auto' cynically renders a world where there are no alternatives to bare-knuckled capitalism.

The third section, 'New Game?' demonstrates how the means of production can be coopted by the multitude in acts of defiance, suggesting the possibility of freedom. Mr. Dyer-Witheford and Mr. de Peuter cite spontaneous acts of online protest, tactical games, and self-organized worlds as evidence that gamers are capable of building credible, decentralized social systems. In this light, the authors believe that gamers may have learned some formidable unintended lessons from corporate game marketers: an understanding of how systems of power and politics work in both the game universes and the real worlds they inhabit; and the technical capacity and desire to construct an inclusive and sustainable alternative to empire.

This highly-readable, entertaining and informative book is highly recommended to everyone.

Through these experiments with different modes of storytelling, Pratt seeks to transform frameworks of perception, to create and collect sympathetic witnesses—in short, to promote a wide-ranging public discussion and debate about a massive worldwide shift in family (and nonfamily) relations of intimacy and care.

Developing DH programs within Colleges

Excellent review of the history, definitions, and controversies in the still emerging field of the Digital Humanities. I found it especially helpful in clarifying what the first steps in developing such a program at our college should be. Can't recommend it highly enough for those who are trying to acquaint themselves with the field, especially with regard to what to keep in mind for developing effective pedagogy. The chapter on liberal arts colleges was especially helpful and pulled no punches.

About the Author
Ralph C. Watkins is assistant dean of African American Church Studies and associate professor of Society, Religion and Africana Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also director of Christian education for First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles. An active teaching scholar, Dr. Watkins has more than 250 publications and conference presentations to his credit, and is the author of I Ain t Afraid to Speak My Mind. He holds a D.Min. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Jason A. Barr Jr. is senior pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and adjunct professor at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Geneva College. He holds an M.Div. from Duke University.

Jamal-Harrison Bryant is the founder and pastor of one the fastest growing AME churches in the nation, The Empowerment Temple in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to his role as pastor, Rev. Bryant served as the director of the NAACP's youth and college division. He holds an M.Div. from Duke University.

William H. Curtis is senior pastor of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Curtis was elected president of the Hampton University Ministers Conference for 2007 and was a contributor to Outstanding Black Sermons, Volume 4 (Judson Press 2001). He holds an M.Div. from Howard University and a D.Min. from United Theological Seminary.

Otis Moss III is pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, IL. He is author of Redemption in a Red Light District, and has contributed to The African American Pulpit, Sojourners, and Urban Spectrum. Rev. Moss holds an M.Div. from Yale University.
